Ash Austin is a ceramic artist based in Northern California. Influenced equally by classical vessels, modernist architecture, and a feeling of defiance, Ash’s work blurs the line between utility and art object. Her pieces live in the spaces of collectors, creatives, and the curated interiors of those fluent in visual punctuation.
Artist Statement: I use sculptural ceramic forms to give shape to emotions for which I have not found words. Through a variety of hand building techniques, I intuitively craft motion and life into clay before committing it to a fixed state. The result is a form with the allure of nature and the human body. I am constantly leaning on this practice to challenge any arbitrary rules I may be applying both to this art form and to myself as an artist and a woman.
